Happy birthday, Adam!

Saturday, January 07th, 2012 | Author: Heather

Hem, hem! Today we celebrate the coming of age of an extraordinary wizard. Though still young, this wizard has already achieved more than many people three times his age. He has forged lasting relationships across unfathomable distances, formed a community of literary discussion and enlightenment, proved his dedication to his creative endeavors through the darkest of times, danced with a Hagrid wig on his head (except I wasn’t supposed to tell you that), and created one of the best and most interactive podcasts in the Harry Potter fandom. That’s right, everyone. Today Adam turns 19.

Since Adam is Canadian and they are rather silly up there, he is finally a legal adult. So I have compiled a list of things he should do now that he no longer has the Trace on him.

1.) Cook a meal with magic. You’re an adult so you should learn how to cook and since you’re a wizard in muggle guise you might as well at least try to boil the water for your Kraft Dinner with your wand.

2.) Go to the Hog’s Head and order a fire whiskey. It’s always good to drink with a goat.

3.) Get into a fight with the Prime Minister in your living room.

4.) Embark on an insane camping trip with two of your best friends searching for the scattered bits of your arch enemy’s soul hidden in ancient artifacts.

5.) While you’re on this camping trip you might as well team up with a goblin and rob a bank. (*DISCLAIMER*: I am kidding. The Potter Pensieve Podcast does not condone such criminal actions. Do not go tell your parents that you’re off to infiltrate a bank because Heather from the PPP told you to.)

6.) Bail me out of jail when I’m accused of encouraging theft by people who didn’t read the disclaimer above.

7.) Jump into a pool of frozen water before taking off an evil necklace that is obviously going to choke you.

8.) Eat mushrooms that your friend who knows little about horticulture deems edible enough.

9.) Go chasing after objects from fairy tales on very little evidence that they might exists.

10.) Sneak into your old school where you know your enemies are waiting.

Wow. Okay. Um, maybe it’s best if you don’t follow Harry Potter’s example in everything. I think it’d be in the everyone’s best interest if you just ate cake with a few friends and left the insane adventures to fictional wizards. But anyway, to my fellow founder and best friend, happy birthday. From all of us here in the Pensieve, we hope your day is magical.

If you want to give Adam a present for his birthday, get your guesses in for the New Year’s Challenge. You have until midnight tonight, Pacific Standard Time. That’s 13 hours so hurry. You don’t want to miss your chance!

Spoilers from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

Saturday, April 09th, 2011 | Author: Sarah

Wow! It has been entirely too long since my last post but I feel the need to assure you that I have been actively gathering as much information as possible in regards to the changes that may be coming to the WWoHP. I use the term “changes” lightly as it may not be the most accurate term but it is the best to describe our current situation. I am sure many of you have heard the rumors surrounding the possible expansion of the Harry Potter portion of the park.

I am the type of person that loves to hear the gossip and rumors and then follow through to see how much of this information is true. While I can’t say 100% that an expansion is happening, I can confirm that there will be changes in the future that will directly effect the Wizarding World. According to a Universal Studios of Orlando engineer that wishes to remain anonymous, Universal is currently working on blueprints for the mandatory “update” that is required by Universal Studios. The source did confirm that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will definitely be getting some of the upgrades.  At this point the engineer cannot confirm nor deny the rumors of the expansion and whether it will take over the Lost Continent portion of the park.

I will be visiting the park again tomorrow and will hopefully harass enough employees to get some concrete evidence but until then I messily threw together some of the original pictures of the park with some added narration.

I truly hope this satisfies your hunger…. At least until I can get some serious facts together!!!

The Big Bang of the New Year

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011 | Author: Sarah
Let me start by saying that for those of you that are still lagging (such as myself) we have actually entered a new year and are officially in 2011.

Depending on how you look at your glass (half full versus half empty) this could be the greatest year ever in the Harry Potter fandom, a very sad year or maybe even that bitter sweet feeling you get when you think you finally have all the answers to something only to find out that maybe you really didn’t want to know all the answers.

Either way, this is going to be an extremely exciting year for us Harry Potter fans. Of course, we all know that Part Two of The Deathly Hallows is scheduled to come out in theaters in July. My personal “happy place” for this is that we have LeakyCon 2011 to look forward to!

No, I don’t mean just a convention for the Harry Potter “freaks” of the world. If you have to choose one Harry Potter event to attend, this is the one! It’s being held in Orlando, FL on the Universal grounds where the wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter has come to life. What is the added bonus of this particular convention you may ask? Well….if all goes according to plan (movie releases don’t get delayed and such) then all of us will be able to see the final movie together as one big Harry Potter family!!! Oh, with the added bonus of us being able to see the midnight showing and hopefully in IMAX all within the boundaries of the Universal Studios park! It is bound to be the best Harry Potter party ever held!!!

So now I must ask, how many of you have been to a Harry Potter convention before and what was your experience? And, are you planning to attend LeakyCon 2011?

I can’t wait to meet everyone face-to-face in July!!!

The End of an Era…

Saturday, October 09th, 2010 | Author: Emily

Firstly, I would just like to say a big hello to everyone,   and I am very excited to be a part of this project! Today I am going to share with you a piece of writing that I wrote all the way back when the first pictures of the epilogue scenes being filmed for Part 2 of Deathly Hallows were leaked.

“Why does this make me so sad? An enormous punctuation mark on my childhood is fastly approaching. A full stop. These movies, these books, these characters have been such an integral part of my life for the last 10 years, I wonder, how to say goodbye? How to imagine life without them? I find comfort knowing that there are others out there that care as much as I do, but sometimes it makes me feel isolated. All I receive is an incredulous look and a roll of the eyes. Emily, it’s not real. But to me it is real and so many others of millions of people, this is real. The power of J.K.Rowling’s writing captivated me from the very first sentence and it has formed me into the person that I am today. The era of Potter is coming to a close right before my very eyes, and I feel like I am going to lose a part of myself along with it. I seems silly to say, but what am I without it? It is part of my identity. What will we all do, those who have stuck by Harry through all of these years, when those final credits roll? When we hear “Hedwig’s theme” for the very last time? (Probably cry, a lot!) 10 years of living and breathing Potter has all come down to this, the conclusion of the most amazing story probably ever written. I am consumed with bitter sweet feelings. After all, isn’t this what we have all been waiting for? This is what we wanted, all of those days we counted. But, do I really want it to end? It feels like only yesterday that I received the first film on VCR, has it really been that long? That long since we all fell in love with Dan, Rupert and Emma?

Every trailer, every teaser, every new picture filled me with the complete joy and anticipation that only Potter can bring. I don’t want to lose that feeling. I cannot help but wonder how I am going to feel when we see the WB logo for the last time. Where will I be? Who will be with me? I grew up with these people. The actors, the crew, the editors and the people I met over the Internet. We have shared all of our ups and downs, and they have helped my through the toughest times in my life. All because of one boy under the stairs. Everything that I know about lie, and death for that matter, is contained within these books. The power of love and friendship.

These movies will never be the books, but they represent all that I love about them. I owe everyone so many hours of pure joy and excitement in my life. So I will continue to contemplate the ending and try to come to terms with the conclusion of my childhood. It sounds so Peter Pan, but I really don’t want it to end. All I can do is reminisce about all of the great times we spent together, and for that I will be eternally grateful.”
