12 Signs of a Real Harry Potter Fan…

Monday, November 15th, 2010 | Author: Emily

As the approach of this new film gets closer, and as Potter resurfaces into the news again, I am surrounded by people who act like they have been a fan all along. Being slightly isolated in my Harry Potter obsession, you can imagine my delight about this time of year when someone brings up the subject, because most of the time it is all that I want to talk about. However, I am usually disappointed. Why? Because these people seem to think that seeing all of the movies makes you a massive Harry Potter fan. Well, I have news for you. It doesn’t, and here are ten things that I use to sort the men from the boys, so to speak.

  1. You can refer to each book in one word, without using the whole title. For example; Stone, Chamber, Azkaban, Goblet, Phoenix, Prince and Hallows (or even just numbers.)
  2. You know what PS/SS, CoS, PoA, GoF, OoTP, HBP and DH all stand for, and use these abbreviations frequently.
  3. You are completely aware that there are two titles to the first book in the series, and which one was published first.
  4. You refer to J.K.Rowling as Jo (sorry Thio!)
  5. You know who the “three Davids” are!
  6. You are completely aware of the significance of the character of Dawlish in the Harry Potter series!
  7. You love Evanna Lynch as Luna, because you know just how much of a real fan that she is.
  8. You automatically know that the next film will be “darker” than the one before it.
  9. What know what the “Scottish Book” is and desperately looking forward to it!
  10. Hypothetically, you decide to, in preparation for the next film, start to read DH again, and realise that you already know the book off by heart! Seriously, anticipating the next line while reading the one before it. This is all just hypothetical of course.
  11. You know that “ship” refers to “relationship” and that some “ships” are bound to sink. The topic of shipping is a discussion that should be approached with extreme caution, and that words like “delusional” should definitely not be used in reference to any ship in particular!
  12. And finally, do you know that the movie is being split into TWO PARTS? I apologise for my bitterness, but I have been asked that question a lot lately! Haha.

I seem to be making a habit of making “lists,” but oh well. What do you guys think should be added to this? Food for thought…
